Dave Hill is exploring his roots and we’re all invited along on his genealogical joyride. His latest book, “Parking the Moose: One American’s Epic Quest to Uncover His Incredible Canadian Roots” explores the homeland of his grandfather and his own childhood obsession with his ¼ ancestry. Hill, a comedian, writer, musician, actor, radio host, and all-around joy maker in many forms, originally hails from Cleveland, OH. He’s appeared on “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee,” and others, and performs live comedy all over the world on stages like SXSW, Bumbershoot, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Hill might be only a quarter Canadian, but his work across media is 100% hilarious.

Emily Flake sees your awkwardness, and raises you a hilarious book all about it. Her latest, “That Was Awkward: The Art and Etiquette of the Awkward Hug” is filled with anecdotes, illustrations, and advice for dealing with the most bumbling of bodily encounters. Flake’s cartoons and humorous essays run regularly in The New Yorker, The Nib, and many other publications. Her weekly strip, “Lulu Eightball,” ran in alt-weeklies for many years. She’s written and illustrated two other books, “These Things Ain't Gonna Smoke Themselves” and “Mama Tried.” Her illustrations and cartoons appear in publications all over the world, including The New York Times, Newsweek, The Onion, The New Statesman, and Forbes. Flake’s hilarious illustrations and writing assure us that if we’re going to be hug awkwardly, we might as well laugh while we do it.

Giants in the Trees are a band born from the Pacific Northwest. The members include Krist Novoselić, best known as a founding member of the seminal group Nirvana (bass, accordion), Jillian Raye (vocals, bass & banjo), Erik Friend (percussion) and Ray Prestegard (guitars). From rural Wahkiakum County in between Portland and Seattle, they consider themselves a true product of their environment. Giants emerged in 2017 with “Giants in the Trees,” and this year they’ve released the ten-song collection “Volume 2.” The new record expands upon their commitment to infusing their songs with personality, melody, and variety, all the while creating whimsy –the kind you can dance to.
